Reply Delete VINAYAK SHARMA September 2, 2012 at 3:43 AM good work bharani...But I would like to emphasise from my research on how dravidan languages(particularly tamil) became predominant in south..Actually when the aryans nomads came to north western region of India through khyber passes..after crossing sindhu river....the whole of the sub-continent was filled with the native people -dravidans...This can be understood from rigvedas referring to clashes between the advancing aryans and the dashyus-dark native skinned people(dravidans) RV 6.018.03 Thou, thou alone, hast tamed the Dasyus; singly thou hast subdued the people for the Arya. In this, or is it not, thine hero exploit, Indra? Declare it at the proper season. RV 6.024.08 Extolled, he bends not to the strong, the steadfast, nor to the bold incited by the Dasyu. High mountains are as level plains to Indra: even in the deep he finds firm ground to rest on. This RV 6.024.08 verse tells us that the Dasyu incited people characterized as bold. RV 6.014.03 The foeman’s wealth in many a place, Agni, is emulous to help. Men fight the fiend (dasyu in the original Sanskrit text), and seek by rites to overcome the riteless foe. Here in RV 6.014.03 is very clear that the Dasyu did not follow the Arya rites, and hence called the riteless. In Rig Veda III:34:9 Indra killed the Dasyus and "gave protection to the Aryan color." Not only did the Aryans shamelessly pray for booty in war, but they based their militarily won supremacy on the lightness of their skin color compared to the dark colors of the native Dasyus. They arrogantly proclaimed, "Let those who have no weapons suffer sorrow." (Rig Veda IV:5:14.) So due to the descriptions of their chief foes in RIGVEDA, the dasyus or dasas ("slaves" as they are called by aryans), allowing us an accurate look at the Indus culture. They(dasyus) are portrayed in rigvedas as short dark demons with unbecoming features like thick lips and flat noses.(As most of people in dravidian race look like) The aryans then began conquering and taking control over regions in north India and at the same time pushed the local people southwards or towards the jungles and mountains in north India. According to this historical fact the general division of Indian society is made. North Indians are Aryans and south Indians are Dravidians. One more thing to note is that not all native people of north India were pushed southwards by the Aryans. Some stayed and served the Aryans and others moved to live in the forests and the jungles of north India. Those dravidans who stayed behind mingled with these aryans, absorbed into aryan theology and social framework and lost their original identities, language and culture, thus evolving into one among their caste hierarchies..(usually the low caste scheduled caste and scheduled tribal people in north india-for example the BHILS-bowmen caste..Actually the word for bow in tamil in VIL -comparable to BHIL).... This is how dravidian languages became predominant in south...And coming to tamil...It is continuing in the same form and structure as that of the original form of dravidan language without having much deviations from its ancient form.. i.e Proto-dravidan language--Proto south dravidan language--proto tamil-classic tamil- tamil Proto-Dravidian had five short and long vowels: *a, *ā, *i, *ī, *u, *ū, *e, *ē, *o, *ō. The sequences *ai and *au are treated as *ay and *av (or *aw)[2] The current tamil language also has the same five short and long vowels *a, *ā, *i, *ī, *u, *ū, *e, *ē, *o, *ō along with *ai and *au with one more *aq.. So it retains its original structure along with the development of a rich literature and well defined grammer..without much loan words from other languages(say sanskrit)..Also it has *zh-retroflex a speciality unique of tamil language only.. whereas other dravidan languages have borrowed more sanskrit loan words and they had evolved into a perfect language at a much later date than that of tamil.. Hence tamil is a classical language..

Reply Delete Replies BHARANI DHARAN September 4, 2012 at 9:32 AM I accept all your argument but we need to have lots of research on Ancient Language evolution ..........then only we can find answer for it........

Delete Anonymous July 24, 2015 at 11:55 AM it may be the nice story, Correct the mistake and see your story is changed - Dasyu means "Dacoit" in Sanskrit, not Daasa. as you mentioned

Delete Reply Anonymous September 5, 2012 at 1:09 AM Hi Mr Dharan I'd like thank you and also say that maybe, the information of Persian language might require to be revised. because it has been written "Civilization:Muslim Civilization" instead of Persian or Iranian Civilization. Persian language as you mention earlier is an Indo-European language and also itself was the language of The Achaemenid Persian Empire 550 BCE, although the Muslim civilization is hardly considered since 622–632/A.H. Thanks and Regards

Reply Delete Replies Ajay George July 29, 2013 at 5:06 PM I do agree, there is no connection between the persian language and islam, and there is no such called muslim civilization as well.. its a general knowledge that persian is older than many of the surving religions.

Delete MoinKhan February 12, 2015 at 4:19 PM Please tell me what was the language of Arabs before 600 AD, 100 AD, 100 BC, 500 BC, 1000 BC, 2000 BC, 3000 BC upto 10,000 BC. Thanks, moinishat@gmail.com

Delete Ben Rahi July 14, 2016 at 9:41 AM Persian language is not a product of Muslim Civilization!! after all Muslims (Arabs) tried to replace it with Arabic, Iranian resisted to this day. This language helped Islam by adding some wisdom in it and helped it to survive as a Religion! otherwise it would remain mostly as it's origin to be a political system. The evolution of this language has 3 major phases. witch the last phase was at time that Arabs took over Persia. Please re-phrase it.

Delete Reply Anonymous September 12, 2012 at 11:50 PM With what evidence have you stated the below statement? "Sanskrit Script early found in Rig Veda. Its Hindu Veda believed to sacred.Sanskrit always been language of priest and Bhramin,so Sanskrit came to extinct.Sanskrit is always not a language of common man." You should be making it clear if it is purely based on your opinion or on some facts. In any civilization, in general, it is the learned scholar(s) who would be involved in written form of the language. You have contradicted your statements when you said personalities as Valmiki/Kalidasa while you keep mentioning as it is confined only to Brahmins (while being Brahmin is not a right that comes by birth but it is a different story nowadays).

Reply Delete Alex.F. October 23, 2012 at 4:22 AM Although I do agree that all the languages above are relatively old, it is important to know how old in terms of written, spoken or even regional usage of that language in order to be able to determine its age. When searching for the oldest language in terms of one of the first languages spoken, it is logical to start your search on the African continent, the birth-place of humans. When searching for the oldest language in terms of evidence in written form, then you might want to add the Sumerian language to your list. Check out http://www.language-united.com/oldest-language.html if you want to know more concerning this topic.

Delete Aswin Raj June 17, 2014 at 11:18 PM ya man. The old generation of North India has turned the Indian generation blind to all the prehistoric events. It is saddening to see that they lamely post these comments without proper research on it. Some of you guys don't even know that it was your ancestors who were crucified to death and still make a mockery out of it. Tamil is considered as a joke only in India dude. Just google about how many foreigners are involved in researching about tamil and its rich heritage. When a foreigner is coming to India to learn about it, it is SHAMEFUL and paining to see an Indian not knowing about its values. Learn about something and then comment, otherwise it just shows that you are a naive and foolish person. hope u understand..

Delete Aswin Raj June 17, 2014 at 11:32 PM Adding to the previous reply, do you guys also know that Korean, Camaroon and Japanese have many words from Tamil?? I can give you a ton of words from Sanskrit and its daughter languages which originated from Tamil. Do you know that Bodhi Dharma, the founder of Martial arts in China that is the present day Kung-Fu is actually a Tamilian. Think dude think!!! Don't just accept the facts told to you by your ancestors.. Google it if you dont believe..

Reply Delete Velu Arasu. July 4, 2013 at 6:48 AM I personally think, ancient Tamil was originated in Kumari Kandam (lemuria continent)know was Dravidan that includes Malayalam, Kannadam, Tulu and Telegu. Tamil was announced as first classical language of India then other all Dravidan languages.... The truth is the origin of Tamil is unknown and it is mother for other Daravidan language and other world language. I personally wonder while learning about Korean language, Japanese and Cameroon have same words and grammar. most of all English have many words that is root from Tamil... I conclude that the first language cannot be remain until now. However Tamil was preserved and still living and the root with other language is proved. Tamil have great philosophy, humanities, holiness and truths, as I am a Tamil, the literature of Tamil-Tirukural is comparable to bible even greater than bible virtues, it has 1330 versus including praising god as first chapter. There is a competition between Tamil and Sanskrit. Sanskrit pregnant the Hindu religion. I personally hate Hindu religion concepts such as Varnashiramam (Caste system), since there is no humanity and equality in-front of god and brings lot of dark in the human kind. so I can personally say Sanskrit brought darkness to the humankind in the form of bad religious concepts... I am sorry if I hurt someone personally.

Reply Delete netra mantripragada March 23, 2014 at 4:40 PM According to ancient scripts there are only 2 languages, one is Sanskrit which is believed to be a Daiva Basha (Language of Gods) and the other is (Danava) Basha (Language of Demons). We don't know the name. But it could be Tamil (Not Sure) or may be mix of Tamil and Telugu. That does not mean Tamils are Demons, they are not for sure.Hope people will not misunderstand. We are all human beings. Although Tamil,Telugu and Kannada are declared as Classical Languages. Experts believe that Tamil still holds its purity whereas Telugu although independent derived lot of words from sanskrit (for reasons unknown).especially Literature is greatly influenced by Sanskrit. All the Languages in this world are derived from 2 languages. I myself South Indian from Andhra and we are believed to be the people who supported Kauravas in Mahabharata War.That does not mean anything to me.We have to accept facts. Facts are Facts.

Reply Delete netra mantripragada March 23, 2014 at 5:05 PM Finally one more thing.. All that is Old need not be Gold. But everything you own is your own. Every language has its own importance.and every language is beautiful if you know it. Languages remain pure because of many reasons it generally reflects the attitude of the people ,it could be both positive or negative. For Example: Love their own.Not interested in owning someone else's. Not open to Change.Happy with themselves or not interested in experimenting Very Rigid because they feel their culture is inferior to no one. Did not upgrade themselves, may be because they wanted to preserve the pure form {(especially Tamil ,very limited and restrictive) the number of base letters are minimal.less than 20.} Never seen the outside world may be because everything was available with them or may be with fear. Although not all modern languages are Sophisticated.

Reply Delete Anonymous May 19, 2014 at 1:34 PM To all the smart people out there saying tamil or sanskrit or what not is the oldest language think about it the oldest language is mere sounds generated from mouth with clicks and hand signs, without sounds try speaking sanskrit or tamil....my what a world...
